Bring Your Own Project: Reception
5 - 8 p.m.
Fleisher Art Memorial’s Bring Your Own Project engages the Southeast Philadelphia community in a multi-part "place-keeping" project that creates avenues for community-based art exchanges. As part of the initiative, Latina community members and the nonprofit organization Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violaence (WOAR) formed the artist collective Valientes Guerreras (Brave Warriors). Led by artist facilitator Laura Deutch, the group created a large curtain from recycled materials.
On May 3, Fleisher Art Memorial hosts a reception at Cherry Street Pier, where the curtain will be on view to the public. Valientes Guerreras describes the curtain as a work that “transforms cosas tiradas (things thrown away) into something beautiful, demanding that we see things differently and shining light on the potential of what’s possible when we all work together in our community.”
