"Body Against Body" pre-show conversation with Bill T. Jones and Ishmael Houston-Jones

23 Feb 2013
18:30:00 - 19:30:00
Painted Bride Art Center

The Painted Bride Art Center presents a piece of living dance history as Bill T. Jones revives his avant-garde roots. The pieces in *Body Against Body *address themes of race and sexual orientation in small-scale duets. Both conceptually and physically rigorous, the dances take on new life through the diverse dancers of Jones’s company.

Bill T. Jones, accompanied by Ishmael Houston-Jones, will discuss both his original works and the context of the recreations in Body Against Body. Topics discussed will include the socio-political and cultural contexts in which the works were made; the examination of the contrast of physical styles, race, gender, and sexuality; the motivations behind reconstructing these works for contemporary casts and Bill T. Jones' personal insights into the pieces. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions.
