Theater artist and Pew Fellow Alex Torra’s ¡BIENVENIDOS BLANCOS! or WELCOME WHITE PEOPLE! returns for a two-night showing at Lang Performing Arts Center at Swarthmore College.

This Spanish-language (with English supertitles), ensemble-devised performance work examines "whiteness," American privilege, and the complexities of cultural identity. On stage, Torra is joined by an ensemble of Cuban, Cuban American, and Caucasian American performers to present the work in a style inspired by old-world Cuban entertainment forms, including Havana's famed Tropicana Club Floor Show from the 1950s. The performance invites audiences to consider the relationship between Cuba and the United States, as well as the impact of history, culture, and economics on Americans of Cuban descent.

¡BIENVENIDOS BLANCOS! originated with support from a 2016 Center Project grant.
