The Historical Society of Pennsylvania invites the public to a lecture to learn more about African American women of the early 1800s who worked to end slavery, and to consider how this history illuminates our lives today. Playwright Ain Gordon, who is at work uncovering new stories about American struggles for "liberty and freedom for all," will do a dramatic reading.
Funded by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, An Artist Embedded explores, via a series of public events with visiting artists and scholars, how historical events are related to contemporary issues in the United States—such as race relations, marriage equality, voter disenfranchisement, and immigration reform.
