Ars Nova Workshop and International House Philadelphia Present "New Paths Festival: On Film"
2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
In preparation for the New Paths Festival, Ars Nova Workshop is proud to present a day of documentary films at International House Philadelphia.
Soldier of the Road: A Portrait of Peter Brötzmann: 2 p.m. Musician: 5 p.m.Rising Tones Cross: 8 p.m.
These three films turn the lens on musicians, but keep the camera rolling after the performance ends. The result is three views into the creation process of jazz and improvised music, exposing both the quotidian struggles of life as a working musician and the rich anecdotal histories of these musicians. These films are artistic endeavors in themselves, but also exist as historical documents of the development of the avant-garde over the last 40 years.
This event is part of Ars Nova Workshop's Center-funded New Paths Festival, a citywide festival conceptually connecting some of the most innovative artists in the world to a variety of historic and peculiar Philadelphia spaces. While the work of these artists is inherently adventurous, the festival aims to deepen artists' engagement with their performance space as well as with the city's history, cultures, and people, making these events uniquely Philadelphian.
